Install AppTemplate

The builds are unsigned zip archives, so both operating systems will ask for confirmation the first time. These steps cover that.

Windows

Download apptemplate_<version>_windows.zip from the download page.
Right-click the zip, choose Properties, tick Unblock if it is offered, then click OK.
Extract the zip to a folder you control, such as C:\Tools\AppTemplate. Do not run the app from inside the zip.
Run the executable. If SmartScreen appears, choose More info, then Run anyway.
Pin the executable to the taskbar or Start menu if you want it close at hand.

macOS

Download apptemplate_<version>_macos.zip from the download page.
Double-click the zip to expand it, then drag the app into Applications.
The first launch must be a right-click (or Control-click) then Open, so that Gatekeeper offers the Open button. Double-clicking an unsigned app only offers Cancel.
If macOS still refuses, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the blocked-app notice, and choose Open Anyway.

Updating

Quit the app, replace the old folder or bundle with the new one, then start it again. Settings are kept outside the app folder, so an in-place replacement does not lose them.

Uninstalling

Delete the extracted folder on Windows, or the bundle in Applications on macOS. Describe here where the app keeps its settings and cache so a person can clear those too.
